The Minneapolis Star Tribune and Salon.com have run articles recently about the growing trend of teen-aged girls kissing other girls at college and high school parties. They’ve even coined a term for it: “Heteroflexible.”
Although the number of women engaging in same sex relationships has steadily risen over the years, the articles contend the girls-kissing-girls trend is mainly being used as a way to get boys. The Salon.com article quotes one young woman as saying,
“The motivations aren’t about your own desires, they’re about getting guys excited and looking hot.”
The Strib article says, “Staged bisexuality is now the norm.” It references this summer’s monster hit song by Katy Perry, “I Kissed a Girl.”
