Felicia Young says her famous Tennessee Titans son is hurting “inside and out.” Young was injured in the Titans opener and at one point apparently refused to enter the game after being booed. Yesterday Young vanished after talking to family, team officials and a psychologist. Although the Titans are downplaying the incident today, Titans coach Jeff Fisher was so concerned for Young’s safety that he called the police.
In the police report and a statement by a police spokesman, it’s obvious that both family and Titan officials believe Young was potentially suicidal.
This isn’t the first time that Young has contemplated walking away from football. Young was a superstar and national champion at Texas. Following his successful rookie season, there were reports that Young thought about retiring.
Unfortunately there aren’t many other jobs that are willing to pay a 25-year-old, suicidal, college dropout who scored a 6 on his Wonderlic test $58 million.
Besides Young’s personal anguish, the most disturbing aspect of this story is how quickly southern fans are turning on the once fan-favorite. Young is being DESTROYED on the Tennessean’s message boards.
