FREDDIE ROACH: TURNS ON HIS FORMER PUPIL
Oscar De La Hoya is used to taking shots both as a boxer inside the ring and a promoter outside of it. Nonetheless, De La Hoya was blindsided by his latest critic. Freddie Roach, De La Hoya’s own former trainer, called the boxer “an old man” and predicted he will be knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in their upcoming fight in December.
Roach also said De La Hoya is “known for losing,” is a fighter not a puncher, and doesn’t have the respect of Mexican fight fans that Pacquiao does. Roach is training Pacquiao in the upcoming fight.
De La Hoya tried to take the high road saying he has “nothing but love” for his former trainer. He added there was “nothing bad” he could say about Roach. Still, it was apparent the criticism stung the former champion.
