Darren Rovell makes a great point in his CNBC sports business column today. If the Detroit Lions are going to go 0-16 this year, they might as well make some money off their ineptitude.
Rovell says going winless this season could actually be a marketing “gold mine” for the Lions. Forget the ’72 Dolphins and last year’s New England Patriots. According to Rovell, the real money is in 0-16. In his article, Rovell even admits to owning an autographed 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey. That was the NFL’s last winless team.
