TUFFY RHODES

Most baseball fans remember outfielder Tuffy Rhodes because of the three home run game he had for the Chicago Cubs on opening day in 1994. The game was against New York Mets ace pitcher Dwight Gooden and made Rhodes a Wrigley Field legend forever. Rhodes was actually the first National League player to hit three home runs on opening day in history.

Rhodes only hit 13 home runs in his entire big league career and played his last Major League game the next season. That means it’s been 15 years since Tuffy Rhodes’ last Major League baseball game. However, he has gone on to stardom in Japanese baseball. Last night he hit the 444th home run of his Japanese career. Rhodes also tied the Japan all-time single season home run mark of 55 in 2001. Those 55 homers tied the home run record set by the legendary Sadaharu Oh, who is also japan’s all-time home run champion with 868.
