NOW THAT’S AN ACTUAL “PRESIDENTIAL” SUITE
Several Nevada politicians expressed hope this week that President Barack Obama would express some “magic words” during his Tuesday speech for Nevada Senator Harry Reid. Obama was in town for a Reid fundraiser. Both Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman and Nevada governor Jim Gibbons had been hopping that the President would make a direct endorsement to U.S. citizens, telling them it was ok to come spend money in Vegas.
Obama didn’t go that far but he did mention how nice his room at Caesar’s Palace was. Both Goodman and Gibbons said they were hoping for more. In February President Obama had said,
“You can’t get corporate jets, you can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer’s dime,”
Following those comments, conventions and meetings from several corporations scheduled to be in Vegas were canceled including Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and State Farm.
Perhaps Obama would rather lead by example. The LA Times blog, “The Movable Buffet,” points out that the President stayed at a 22,000 square foot high-roller suite at Caesar’s Palace during his stay. (see above photo) The president did not pay for the room. No word on whether it was paid for by Reid’s cmpaign or comped by Caesar’s.
