DAVID ORTIZ
Thursday, Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz had the worst game of his life. Ortiz went 0 for 7 against the Los Angeles Angles. He stranded 12 runners on base.
Following the debacle against the Angels, Red Sox manager Terry Francona announced he was sitting Ortiz, although he stressed he was not benching the veteran superstar DH. That’s funny. You could have fooled everybody else:
Boston Globe: “Ortiz is stranded on the bench”
AP: “Red Sox bench Ortiz”
Providence Journal: “Struggling Ortiz benched for Friday, and maybe longer”
Unbelievably, Ortiz has zero homers on the season. He’s hitting .208. In six previous seasons with the Red Sox, Big Papi hit 232 home runs. From 2003-2007 Ortiz averaged nearly 42 homers and over 128 RBI’s per year and was a huge part, literally, of the Red Sox winning two World Championships.
