JERRY KOOSMAN
Former New York Mets star pitcher Jerry Koosman was sentenced to six months in prison Thursday for failing to pay federal income taxes from 2002-2004.
Koosman had originally told the IRS that he “had researched” tax laws and concluded he didn’t have to pay taxes. At his sentencing, Koosman’s lawyers begged for leniency saying Koosman was simply a “naive farm boy.” Koosman is 66-years-old. The Assistant U.S. Attorney says they wanted to “send a message” and asked for jail time for Koosman.
Koosman won two World Series games for the 1969 Miracle Mets.
