CAIN VELASQUEZ WINS AT UFC 110
Cain Velasquez continued his move up the MMA heavyweight ladder with an impressive first round win over former champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110 in Australia. The win moves his record to 8-0, and undefeated in six UFC appearances. At 27, Velasquez not only infuses the Ultimate Fighting Championship with youth, but is also a potential star of Mexican-America descent-something UFC has long sought to broaden the sport’s appeal. Velasquez was a Junior College National Champion in wrestling before becoming an All-American at Arizona State.
Also victorious on the UFC 110 card were former Pride champions Wanderlei Silva and Mirko Cro Cop, both of whom have struggled since joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship. In fact, it took Cro Cop multiple rounds to defeat a last-minute substitute fighter. Several veteran fighters lost Sunday putting their UFC careers in doubt including Keith Jardine, Stephan Bonnar and Joe Stevenson.
Meanwhile, TUF fighter Ryan Bader won his match defeating Jardine.
