IN DEADSPIN.COM PHOTO, JAY MARIOTTI SHOWN WITH HIS DOMESTIC ABUSE/STALKING VICTIM
Former newspaper columnist and ESPN “Around the Horn” commentator Jay Mariotti may be looking at some serious jail time. Mariotti has been charged in California with felony stalking and an assault on a former girlfriend. These are new charges. Mariotti had previously been convicted of assaulting the same woman in a jealous rage last year.
In one city where Mariotti’s used to write a column, the Chicago Tribune gleefully reported on Mariotti’s latest legal problems. Chicago Sun-Times columnist Roger Ebert ripped into Mariotti in 2008 when he left the paper. Ebert literally wrote, “On your way out, don’t let the door bang you on the ass.” He hilariously called the piece “Jay the Rat.”
Mariotti is out today proclaiming his innocence on the latest charges. He says the stalking charges are “lies.”
