He may not have been able to get outfielder Manny Ramirez a new $100 million contract, but Scott Boras is still the best agent in baseball by far.The magazine Men’s Journal has a profile on Boras this month where they actually refer to him as “the anti-Christ.”

The article’s author, Mark Taibbi, hilariously refers to Boras’ office as a “supervillain lair.” He also describes the agent physically as looking like “a cross between an Orange County golf instructor and a Serbian police official.” Taibbi also describes Boras as “pudgy.”

Upon meeting Boras, Taibbi describes the superagent by writing he “seemed almost crazy”and also manages to work in the phrase “damaged goods.” Yet, through it all, the piece is very pro-Boras, pro-labor and pro-union. Taibbi’s article also describes Boras as being offended by being referred to as “Satan” since, “I’m a good catholic boy.”

Leigh Steinberg has often been described as “the first superagent” to represent athletes. He was also the model for the Tom Cruise character in the movie “Jerry Maguire.”

Steinberg’s client list has dwindled in recent years. It probably has to do with his drinking and sullied reputation. Steinberg was recently arrested for public intoxication after police found him incoherent and “laying in the dirt” by the Newport Beach, CA Auto Mall. It was Steinberg’s third alcohol related arrest including a DUI where the driver in the other car was injured.

During the ’90s, Steinberg was at the peak of high-profile sports agents. He represented a record eight NFL number one draft picks and most of the league’s top quarterbacks including Steve Young, Troy Aikman and Warrren Moon. Then came a bitter split where a former partner left his firm and took most of Steinberg’s clients, two drunk driving arrests and a multitude of stories about Steinberg’s drunken misbehavior. An article in Business Week basically described Steinberg as a lazy, out-of-control drunk who constantly embarrassed clients and enjoyed licking the faces of unsuspecting women in public.

Steinberg’s latest alcohol related arrest comes while he is still on probation for a 2007 DUI.
