Today is the last day that Facebook users are supposed to substitute pictures of cartoon characters from their childhood to show their support for victims of child abuse. Meanwhile, there’s a wild conspiracy theory going around.
According to the British tabloid The Daily Mail, the campaign was actually started by pedophiles to help identify young children and potential victims. The theory goes since you’re supposed to pick cartoon characters from your youth, current kiddies will have pictures of figures like Spongebob Squarepants. Old people will post Betty Boop and the Flintstones. Thus, vulnerable children will be easily identifiable.
The theory is crap.
