The New York Times recently reported on a new phenomenon sweeping Asia- “Karaoke Rage.”
The latest victim was a 23-year-old Malaysian man. He was beaten and stabbed to death recently for “hogging the microphone” at a karaoke bar on the island of Borneo. His death was not an isolated incident.
Apparently there have been an increasing number of violent episodes throughout the world involving karaoke. There have reportedly been so many violent outbursts over the Frank Sinatra song “My Way” that it has been banned in bars throughout the Phillipines.
Finally, The Daily Telegraph had the story earlier this year about a man in Thailand who shot eight people to death after their incessant singing of John Denver songs at a karaoke club next to his house. Wow, talk about justifiable homicide!
