MATHIEU MONTCOURT
The sport of tennis has been plagued by illegal betting and potential match fixing. Although it hasn’t been reported on much in America, there are numerous reports that the Russian mafia has fixed professional tennis matches. Even at Wimbledon. In 2007, offshore books suspended betting on Russian tennis player Nikolay Davydenko after $7 million was suddenly and suspiciously wagered on one of his matches.
In May, French tennis player Mathieu Montcourt was suspended by the ATP for betting on games. Now Montcourt is dead.
The 24-year-old Montcourt was found dead in his Paris apartment. He was the 119th ranked player in the world.
