Variety says that an estimated 670 million people worldwide will watch the World Cup final game on July 11th. That’s six times more people than watched this year’s Super Bowl.
For the first time, some of those people will be watching the World Cup soccer finale in 3D at movie theaters. Prices for the tickets to watch that game vary wildly from country to country. However, the main push has been for 3D home television use. The Baltimore Sun ran a story this week about how a test subject viewer at the local Best Buy was “blown away” by 3D tv. The article does go on to say that pushing 3D tv in the current economy may be a big lift.
The 3D television technology is in its infancy. It has gone from theoretical concept to 75-inch 3D televisions in just over a year.
