The transexual Los Angeles Times writer, who made news in 2007 by announcing that he was becoming a woman, has been found dead. Mike Penner apparently commited suicide.
Penner announced, in a 2007 LA Times column, that he was a transexual and was going to become a woman. Penner then began a column entitled, “Woman in Progress” under the byline Christine Daniels. However, in late 2008, Penner switched back to being a man.

SPORTSbyBROOKS and LAObserved.com are both reporting that sportswriter Mike Penner is returning to the Los Angeles Times.
That’s interesting because the last time we heard from Penner HE was a SHE and writing about his (her?) experiences as a transsexual on the LA Times website.
Apparently life as a woman wasn’t for Penner. Although he began the transition (including counseling, hormone treatment etc. all paid for by LA Times insurance) he never had the actual surgery to physically turn himself into a female. Now he returns to the Times as a man.
Brooks writes about the possibility of grousing by LA Times employees. Despite massive layoffs at the paper, he has been receiving a regular paycheck despite the fact that “Penner hasn’t covered events or appeared at the LAT’s offices in person for years.”
Not to mention every single column Penner/Daniels wrote about her transition to life as a woman has been permanently deleted and scrubbed from the LA Times website.
