THE DEVIL MADE HIM DO IT

January 27, 2011

ZAK FOLLETT

Detroit Lions linebacker Zak Follett made a comment last week referring to his team’s quarterback, Matt Stafford, as a “china doll.” Follett said he never meant it as an insult to the oft-injured qb. He adds that the ensuing controversy is a plot. By Satan.

Follett feels that he has been targeted by the devil because he “constantly” praises Jesus. Follett then describes nasty Twitter feeds he has received as “flaming arrows” from Satan. He adds that Satan came up with this plot only after the many women he sent Follett’s way failed to tempt him.

NAKED DRIVE-THRU COACH GETS ANOTHER JOB

January 21, 2010

JOE CULLEN

Wow! Maybe the economy IS picking up. Joe Cullen just got a job. The former Detroit Lions assistant coach has been hired  by the Jacksonville Jaguars to be on their 2010 staff.

In 2006, Cullen became a national punching bag after he was arrested twice, once while driving drunk and also for driving naked at a Wendy’s drive-through. Cullen was eventually suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.  He was fired by the Lions the team went 0-16.

LIONS WIN!!!! ZORN SCREWED

MAYBE REDSKINS COACH JIM ZORN SHOULDN’T HAVE LET TOM CRUISE CALL THE PLAYS THIS WEEK

The Detroit Lions picked up their first win since 2007 Sunday with a 19-14 victory over the Washington Redskins. The win ends a 19-game losing streak by the Lions-tying the second longest winless drought in NFL history.

The loss may be enough to cost Washington coach Jim Zorn his job. The Washington Post referred to Zorn as “embattled” and brought up the possibility of his firing in their game story.

MATT MILLEN

Via Awful Announcing

As the architecht of the NFL’s only 0-16 team, former Detroit Lions GM Matt Millen may go down as the worst executive in the history of team sports. Much has already been made of NBC’s decision to hire Millen as a tv analyst.

During Sunday’s Super Bowl coverage, Channel 4, the Detroit NBC affiliate, actually ran a crawl across the bottom of the screen whenever Millen’s face appeared on camera. The disclaimer read:

“Matt Millen was president of the Lions for the worst eight-year run in the history of the NFL. Knowing his history with the team, is there a credibility issue as he now serves as an analyst for NBC sports?”

CAN THE DETROIT LIONS ACTUALLY PROFIT FROM AN 0-16 SEASON?

Darren Rovell makes a great point in his CNBC sports business column today. If the Detroit Lions are going to go 0-16 this year, they might as well make some money off their ineptitude.

Rovell says going winless this season could actually be a marketing “gold mine” for the Lions. Forget the ’72 Dolphins and last year’s New England Patriots. According to Rovell, the real money is in 0-16. In his article, Rovell even admits to owning an autographed 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey. That was the NFL’s last winless team.
