EXPRESSING HER FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS
Hos of America rejoice! A district judge in Chicago has your back. So to speak. Thursday, he issued a decision that stops authorities from trying to shut down classified ads for prostitution listed under “erotic services” on Craigslist. Sheriff Tom Dart of Cook County in Chicago had sued Craigslist, ordering them to stop running ads for prostitutes. He demanded Craigslist shut down their entire ”erotic services” category nationwide. The sheriff said Craigslist,
“unabashedly facilitates prostitution, then ultimately makes a profit from it.”
A U.S. District Judge has disagreed. He says Dart and the Sheriff’s department are free to do what they can to arrest any of the prostitutes on Craigslist individually but “cannot sue Craigslist for their conduct” of posting the ads. He ordered the lawsuit against Craigslist dismissed.
Dart says Americans spend $80 million a year on Craigslist hookers despite an agreement the company reached with seven attorneys general and a well publicized murder case involving the “Craigslist killer.”
