GIANT SHOE-A MONUMENT ERECTED OUTSIDE OF TIKRIT

Most Americans will recall the infamous shoe-throwing incident involving President Bush on his last visit to Iraq. Iraqi journalist Muntader Al-Zaidi took off both his shoes and threw them at Bush.

This week a monument honoring Al-Zaidi was erected in the city of Tikrit-about 80 miles north of Baghdad. The monument was a giant bronze shoe. Police eventually ordered the shoe removed from an Iraqi orphanage, claiming government property cannot be used for something with a “political bias.”
