NAKED DRIVE-THRU COACH GETS ANOTHER JOB

January 21, 2010

JOE CULLEN

Wow! Maybe the economy IS picking up. Joe Cullen just got a job. The former Detroit Lions assistant coach has been hired  by the Jacksonville Jaguars to be on their 2010 staff.

In 2006, Cullen became a national punching bag after he was arrested twice, once while driving drunk and also for driving naked at a Wendy’s drive-through. Cullen was eventually suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.  He was fired by the Lions the team went 0-16.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS MOVING TO LONDON?

December 8, 2009

The National Football League’s Jacksonville Jaguars have not sold out a single home game this season. They are also the least popular team in terms of merchandising and finished dead last in a Harris Poll of fans when they were asked to name their favorite NFL team.

All of this has led to rampant speculation that the Jaguars are going to move to another city. The frontrunner for relocation initially appeared to be Los Angeles. No more. There are several reports, including one in the LA Times, that new target destination for the club is London, England.

The Times article details just how pathetic the Jaguars really are. Last year, the entire NFL blacked out just nine games. The Jaguars alone will have eight blackouts this season. Their stadium seats 80,000. The Jaguars have put a tarp over their upper deck changing the seating capacity of the stadium to 67,164. It doesn’t matter. The Jags are drawing just 42,079 per game. Worse, the NFL is apparently going to change the way its clubs share their revenue. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is apparently insisting that welfare queen teams like Jacksonville be cut off. That could doom pro football in Jacksonville. The Jaguars are already one of the few NFL teams that actually loses money.

You might think that the Jacksonville-Jaguars-to-London rumors are crazy. Jerome Bettis certainly did in his weekly NBC column. However, since Los Angeles may never get its act together and the alternative is contraction, the London scenario is looking less crazy every day.

RICHARD COLLIER

The New York Times had an incredibly touching piece on former Jacksonville Jaguar football player Richard Collier yesterday. Collier was shot 14 times just before the start of the NFL season.

The shooting left Collier paralyzed from the waist down and cost him his left leg, which was amputated. Karen Crouse’s brilliant article tells of Collier’s positive attitude in the face of losing not just his career, but his very ability to walk. It’s an award-winning feature.

The NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars finally revealed the condition of injured offensive lineman Richard Collier at a press conference today.

It turns out Collier was shot 14 times in a September attack. Two of those bullets entered his spine and Collier is currently paralyzed. Collier also had the bottom of his left leg amputated due to complications. The Jaguars say Collier’s NFL career is over. He is still listed in critical condition by the hospital.

NFL PLAYER SHOT

September 2, 2008

RICHARD COLLIER

There have been a pair of incredibly violent incidents involving football players-one in college and one in the NFL.

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier is reportedly in critical condition and suffered life threatening injuries after being shot multiple times outside a Florida apartment building.

The shooting occured early Tuesday morning. Collier and a friend were reportedly waiting for a pair of women they had met while out clubbing that night.

The website Profootballtalk.com maintains the Jaguars need to “clean things up” pointing out that no less than 10 members of the team have been arrested recently. Just this weekend Jacksonville running back Fred Taylor was involved in an incident where police pulled a gun on him.

Meanwhile, in a shocking incident in Norman, Oklahoma, Sooners defensive end Frank Alexander was briefly hospitalized after a brawl following his team’s 57-2 victory over Chattanooga. Reports are that a fight between Oklahoma athletes and patrons at a local nightclub involved GUNS, KNIVES AND TIRE IRONS.

Alexander was treated and released at Norman Regional Hospital following the incident. Several people were reportedly stabbed in the melee.
