Today would have been singer Michael Jackson’s 51st birthday.

People around the world are celebrating the event. Tributes to Jackson are scheduled from India to Great Britain to Mexico. Spike Lee is throwing a block party in Brooklyn.

Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman has declared today “Michael Jackson Day.” Jackson is being awarded a star in front of the Brendan Theatres. The Palms and Planet Hollywood are throwing Michael Jackson birthday parties.

It’s been just over two months since Jackson’s death.  You know what? Death has REALLY helped The King of Pop’s image.

In life, Jackson was a reviled figure who couldn’t get a new recording deal and was assumed by a majority of people to be a pedophile. Now, record sales are booming and the debate about Michael Jackson seems to be whether to honor him with a national holiday or award him the Nobel Peace Prize.

The idea of a federal holiday honoring Michael Jackson is going to be formally presented to the U.S. House of Representatives. Over half a million people have voted on a Facebook poll asking members whether or not there should be a Jackson holiday.

Wait, there’s more. Apparently, there is also a movement  to award Jackson a posthumous Nobel Prize. Jackson proponents want him awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his extensive work with charities.

Rolling Stone magazine is reporting that somebody may have stolen singer Michael Jackson’s prosthetic nose from the LA morgue.

Rolling Stone says the theft left Jackson’s “surgically mangled” face with “a small, dark hole surrounded by bits of cartilage” where his nose used to be. The magazine says the entertainer’s nose was destroyed through years of plastic surgery.

Memo to Al Sharpton: If a caller to your radio show says something so insane, so utterly bizarre and laughable that it can’t possibly be true, the correct response isn’t to say, “That’s interesting. I’ll put it out, we’ll see. I don’t know.”

Those were Sharpton’s exact words when a caller said on-the-air that she thought Sarah Palin had been involved in killing pop singer Michael Jackson. The female caller then theorizes that’s why Palin resigned as Alaska goverrnor last week.

Listen, anyone who has ever done talk radio knows you can’t control what callers say. Sometimes nutjobs get by the screener. It happens. However, you CAN control your response to those callers. Sharpton really screwed up by not denouncing the mental patient who put this theory out there.Why? Because somebody, somewhere is going to pick up on this. And, no matter how bizarre, this theory will now be repeated and repeated and even if it’s a tiny fraction of Americans, SOME people will believe it.

Toronto Argonauts wide receiver Arland Bruce is receiving international scorn for his impromptu celebration Wednesday night. Bruce scored a touchdown on the opening night of the Canadian Football League season. His endzone celebration included pretending he was dead as a “tribute” to the late pop star Michael Jackson. Bruce said he was paying tribute to Jackson by pretending  to be “buried.”

Bruce received two penalties and was fined for his theatrics.

The Reverend Al Sharpton was among the dignitaries celebrating the life of Michael Jackson at a New York memorial last night. The memorial service was held at the legendary Apollo Theater.

In other news regarding the King of Pop, at least 12 Michael Jackson fans have been so despondent over the singer’s death that they have commited suicide. Also, like Elvis following his death, there have been numerous Michael Jackson “sightings” around the world. There is even a creepy website called Michaeljacksonsightings.com. The website claims Jackson faked his own death because, “The Business Entity known as Michael Jackson had to die to free Michael Jackson the artist.” The site even claims to have a picture of Jackson that “proves” he is still alive.

The King of Pop is dead. Michael Jackson died Thursday following a heart attack. He was 50.

The celebrity website TMZ.com broke both the news of Jackson being rushed to the hospital and the singer’s death. The LA Times confirmed the news, saying Jackson was in a deep coma when he arrived at the hospital.

TMZ says Jackson went into cardiac arrest this afternoon at his California home. When paramedics arrived he had no pulse and was unconscious. TMZ says he never regained consciousness.

Jackson’s “Thriller” album was the biggest selling record of all-time. However, the singer will always be known more for his bizarre behavior, penchant for plastic surgery, and allegations of child sexual abuse. Jackson settled a child molestation civil suit  in 2004. In 2005, he was criminally charged with child molestation. He was acquitted.

Ironically, Jackson was about to embark on a world comeback concert tour. He was scheduled to perform a series of sold out shows at O2 Arena in England.

Celebrity columnist Robin Leach is reporting that pop star Michael Jackson has moved out of his Las Vegas home. Leach says the move means that Jackson is giving up on plans for a permanent Las Vegas show from a casino.

Jackson’s new digs are a French chateau in Bel Air, California. He’s paying $100,000 a month in rent for the property which has 13 bathrooms and 12 fireplaces.
