Dwight Howard says he loves the city of Orlando but hates its newspaper

May 10, 2011

DWIGHT HOWARD

Poor Dwight Howard. The Orlando Magic big man says the local newspaper is TRYING to make him leave Orlando.

Howard will be a free agent at the end of next season. There are already rumors of the superstar center bolting the Magic a la Shaq. The chief rumors have him going to the L.A. Lakers. However, Howard contends he loves the city of Orlando and has not made any decision to leave the club. He maintains he just wants to play basketball in “peace.”

Howard blasted the Orlando Sentinel newspaper on his Twitter account. The Sentinel came up with a web app that allows you to dress Howard in different uniforms including a WNBA team and a quasi-racist depiction of him in a Harlem Globetrotters jersey.

IS CHRIS BOSH DWYANE WADE’S BITCH?

CHRIS BOSH

Maybe the wrong Van Gundy brother got the high-paying tv gig. Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy displayed a quick wit (and the fact that he’s a sore loser) yesterday when he blasted NBA free agents LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

Bosh and Dwyane Wade announced yesterday that they were signing free agent contracts with the Miami Heat. Van Gundy, whose Orlando Magic have to play in the same state and division as the Heat, blasted Bosh as being Wade’s “lapdog.”

Also, with it looking more and more like Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James will also sign in Miami, Van Gundy also ripped the one hour ESPN tv show on which James will announce his signing.

MARCIN GORTAT’S BMW

For a guy whose job it is to back up the NBA’s best center, Marcin Gortat has been getting a lot of pub lately. First came the story that the New York Knicks might be willing to offer the Polish Hammer a multi-million dollar contract this offseason to become their new starting center. Then came the story about Reebok ordering Gortat to cover up his Michael Jordan tattoo.

There are at least a dozen journalists from Gortat’s native Poland covering the NBA Finals. They are reportedly covering Gortat’s “every move.” Gortat joked that if he get’s any more popular in Poland he may be tempted to “run for president.”

The latest Gortat story involves his car. Fanhouse.com has a story about Gortat’s BMW M5 which does a reported 225 MPH. It turns out Gortat worked as a mechanic in Poland before coming to America. He made several “modifications” to the car which now has 800 horsepower. Gortat claims he probably has “the fastest car in Florida, maybe in the NBA.”

JAMEER NELSON

An already tough Orlando Magic playoff team may be getting back injured All-Star point guard Jameer Nelson for the NBA Finals this week. Orlando says they are “evaluating” Nelson for a possible return Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Nelson was interviewed by TNT Saturday night and made no mention of a possible return against LA. He talked about “hoping” to be ready to play in some NBA exhibition games this fall.

Nelson suffered an injured shoulder in February. He was having a brilliant season for the Magic and had actually been named to the All-Star squad in February, before being hurt. He was averaging 16.7 points and 5.4 assists per game with the Magic.
