ESPN in trouble for controversial “What if Michael Vick were white?” article

ESPN doesn’t do many controversial stories. However, ESPN The Magazine is drawing heat for a story they ran entitled, “What if Michael Vick were White?”

The story created enough of a firestorm that The Worldwide Leader originally pulled the above controversial photoshopped image of a white Michael Vick. They later re-posted it. Even nonsports media outlets like Time, CNN, and USA Today jumped on the White Michael Vick story.

Even more hilarious was a response article by Black Sports Online entitled, “What if Tom Brady was black?”

Michael Vick THIS close to going from social pariah to Madden 12 cover

The line of the day comes from Yahoo! Sports blogger Chris Chase who writes, “Letting people vote for things is how America ended up with Jimmy Carter, Purple M&Ms and Taylor Hicks.”

Just think, it was only 21 months ago  that Michael Vick was serving hard prison time in Leavenworth for dog fighting. Now, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, alias Ron Mexico, is so popular with football fans that he just advanced to the final round of voting to see who will be on the cover of the EA Sports video game Madden 12.  That’s a pretty significant comeback in popularity for a guy that four months ago tv pundit Tucker Carlson said should be executed.

It will be either Vick or Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis who grace the cover of Madden 12. Hillis would be the most anonymous player ever to be a Madden cover boy. The former journeyman/7th round pick had breakthrough season with the Browns last year rushing for 1,177 yards. In fact, Hillis was the first white guy to rush for 1,000 yards in the National Football League in 26 years.

Considering the Madden Curse, Vick may NOT want to be on the cover. Besides, who wants to be on the cover of the video game for the year that the NFL cancelled its season?

Fox News didn’t exactly give Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick the “fair and balanced” treatment on Tuesday. Substituting for Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson stated that he thought Vick “should have been executed” for his treatment of dogs.

In addition to Carlson’s call for Vick’s death, Megyn Kelly of Fox News had a guest on her show who categorically stated it is only a matter of time until Vick starts killing people.

NFL star quarterback Michael Vick is having such a great season that he just did an interview with thegrio.com where he proclaimed he wants to get a dog.

You may recall that it wasn’t that long ago that Vick was the world’s most famous dog murderer. Vick spent time in federal prison at Leavenworth for dog fighting after it was revealed that he tortured dogs including electrocuting them and drowning puppies in pails of water.

Vick has rehabilitated his image sufficiently to get his first post-prison endorsement deal with a New jersey car dealer.

In recent weeks, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson has been questioned by fans and the media about his reluctance to go over the middle to catch passes and field punts. Apparently, Jackson is worried about getting any more concussions before he signs a new contract for big money.

Jackson’s teammates aren’t impressed. Pro Football Talk ran a quote from a league source saying Jackson’s teammates were going to perform a “code red” on him if he didn’t quit being such a “candy ass.” (“Code Red” is a military term where fellow soldiers rough up an underachieving member to get him to perform up to standards.)

At this rate Michael Vick will soon be able to start buying dogs again. And beat them.

Vick is experiencing one of the greatest sports comebacks and career renaissances of all-time this year as quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. In his second season since being jailed on dog fighting charges, Vick is enjoying an MVP-caliber season. Lest we forget, it wasn’t that long ago that Vick was the most despised figures in sport-a convicted dog murderer, object of boycotts and a social pariah.

Two weeks ago, against the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football, he played one of the greatest games in NFL history, putting up six touchdowns. Plus, Vick will appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated next week. As the blog the700level.com points out, it “takes a lot to go from Leavenworth to the cover of Sports Illustrated.”

Vick has the Eagles at 2-1 and his quarterback rating over over 110 is the best of his career. Major retail outlets in the tri-state area are struggling to fill the demand for Vick jerseys.

NOBODY IN PHILADELPHIA CARES THAT MICHAEL VICK KILLED DOGS

 

Dan Graziano of Fanhouse.com reports that there were a grand total of three animal rights protesters outside of Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia Monday night demonstrating against the signing new Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.

Vick made his debut with the Eagles running for one yard on one carry in the first quarter. He spent last season in prison on dog fighting charges. Friday’s game was Vick’s first on-field action in two years. The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars in Friday’s game 33-32. Vick was 4 of 4 passing.
