CHARLES BARKLEY DOING WHAT POLITICIANS DO

Sportswriter Jeff Pearlman admits he was wrong after initially proclaiming Charles Barkley’s political career “dead” following his New Year’s Eve DUI arrest.

Pearlman makes the point that sure Sir Charles spit on a little girl, threw a guy through a plate glass window, and is a degenerate gambler who drinks too much and has slept with lots of women, but hey, at least he’s HUMAN. Also, unlike real-life American politicians like Mark Sanford and John Ensign, at least you can’t accuse Barkley of hypocrisy. He’s the first celebrity who proclaimed, “I am not a role model.”

Barkley has already announced his plans to run for governor of Alabama in 2014.

  1. Reggie Greene / The Logistician Says:

There is a very simple reason why disgraced politicians should immediately resign no matter what the offense, or the talent they may possess which could benefit society: in this partisan, acrimonious, political environment in which we currently live, and at this point in time in our nation’s evolution, any elected official needs as much support from his constituency which he or she can gather. After the offense, that support base will undoubtedly diminish, and render their service less effective.
