Casey Kasem is arguably the most famous radio voice in history. This weekend he hosted the final program of his illustrious career. Kasem is finally stepping down as the host of his countdown radio programs.
For decades, Kasem was known as the host of American Top 40. He officially passed the duties of that show off to Ryan Seacrest in 2004, but was still the host of his own Top 20 and Top 10 countdown programs that were heard on hundreds of radio stations. Kasem’s final performance aired July 4th.
Kasem also secured his place in pop culture history as the voice of Shaggy on the cartoon “Scooby Doo.” His daughter worked briefly in Las Vegas as a radio talk show host and also did some work with UFC.
Kasem is 77-years-old. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ran a story on Kasem’s retirement in their media column. Next to his picture, the paper wrote, “No, Casey Kasem is not dead.” Ouch!
