UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture

Randy Couture made a successful return to the light heavyweight division Saturday with a unanimous decision over Brandon Vera at UFC 105. Vera appeared stunned and near tears when the decision was announced following a slow-paced non-title main event that was held in Manchester, England. With the victory, Couture’s fighting career is still going strong at the age of 46.

The Couture decision was not without controversy. He was knocked down by Vera in the second round and although all three judges at ringside scored the fight 29-28 in favor of Couture, Michael David Smith of Fanhouse had the score 30-27 for Vera. Vera maintained that he “controlled” the fight. Others disagreed. Following the match, Vera sarcastically said, “Thanks, judges.”

In the card’s co-main event, Dan Hardy earned a title shot against Georges St. Pierre with a victory over Mike Swick. British fighter Michael Bisping was also a winner on a card that was actually televised for free on Spike TV.
