AS THE KNICKS TURN

&fmt=18

New York Knicks guard Nate Robinson returned from the basketball dead Friday night with a 41 point effort in a win against the Atlanta Hawks. Robinson’s outburst was truly amazing since it followed a month of “DNP-Coach’s Decision”s. During a stretch between December 1st and January1st, Robinson didn’t get one second of playing time in 14 games. Apparently, rust wasn’t a factor as N8 knocked down 18 of 24 shots Friday and had 11 key overtime points.

However, one man’s resurrection has turned into another’s demise. Larry Hughes was removed from the Knicks rotation by coach Mike D’Antoni following Robinson’s return. Hughes whined to Newsday that his benching was “not a good way to play the season.” This despite the fact that the Knicks had just beaten the Indiana Pacers by 43 points.

Despite the soap opera atmosphere, New York may actually make the playoffs this season. Unbelievably, even though they’re still only 14-20, the Knicks are now just a game out of a playoff berth in the NBA’s pathetic Eastern Conference and they’re certainly playing better than some imminently catchable teams like Charlotte.
