AMERICA HATES CINDERELLA

CHEERLEADERS DIG BOISE STATE PLAYERS, BUT AS FOR THE REST OF AMERICA, THEY’RE JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU

It turns out everybody DOESN’T love the underdog.

Monday’s Fiesta Bowl, between Boise State and TCU, drew the lowest television ratings  in the history of the BCS. The game marked the first time in history that two schools from non-BCS conferences were matched up in a major bowl game.

The Boise State/TCU matchup was touted as a matchup of undefeated Cinderella teams. America couldn’t have cared less. The game drew a 4.2 rating (about 12.8 million viewers.) That makes it the least watched football game in the history of the Bowl Championship Series. The 4.2 rating/11 share was more than a full point lower than the previous low of a 5.4 rating in last year’s Orange Bowl between virginia Tech and Cincinnati.

Many media experts had predicted the ratings disaster. KTVB TV in Boise does a good job of breaking it down.
