Manute Bol Is Dead

In his NBA playing days center Manute Bol was a bit of a comic figure. Following his playing career,  Bol covered himself in glory. He died today at the age of 47.

Bol was one of the world’s greatest humanitarians. He spent the millions of dollars he earned playing basketball and more trying to bring peace and delivering humanitarian aid to his native Sudan. You could even say Bol gave his life for that cause. He died of kidney failure and a skin disease which he contracted during relief trips to the country.

Bol will be remembered as the comically thin, once-tallest player in NBA history who blocked more shots per minute than anyone in league history. He was also an hilarious figure launching three-pointers with the Golden State Warriors at the end of his career. Bol played 10 NBA seasons.

Bol was so beloved that there even terms about what it means to “Manute Bol” someone in the Urban Dictionary and in foosball.
