Anderson Silva is still the undefeated UFC Middleweight Champion. That doesn’t mean he deserves it.
Frankly, Silva was getting his ass kicked Saturday night for 4 1/2 rounds at UFC 117 in Oakland by mouthy challenger Chael Sonnen. Sonnen absolutely dominated the fight. Sonnen won every round and was well on his way to an upset victory over the unpopular champion when with two minutes left in round five he was caught in a triangle choke hold by Silva and was forced to tap out. It was literally a miracle win for Silva. At first, Sonnen tried to claim he hadn’t tapped out. Replays clearly showed he had. The dominating performance by Sonnen puts in question whether there will be a rematch for the UFC middleweight title or Vitor Belfort will now take on Silva.
Other winners at UFC 117 included veteran Matt Hughes with an impressive first round win and Jon Fitch.
