Tuesday’s New York Times had an article which cites a “peer reviewed paper” by a neurologist which claims famed New York Yankees slugger Lou Gehrig did NOT die from ALS. According to a theory put forth in the current edition of “Journal of Neuropathology & Experimental Neurology,” Gehrig was killed by the effects of a concussion he received after being beaned in the head during a 1934 exhibition game against the Norfolk Tars. The HBO series “Real Sports” follows up on the theory with the story of former Raiders running back Steve Smith who is “wasting away” from the effects of a concussion.
