KOBE BRYANT IS NOW IN THE MEDIA CROSSHAIRS
Oh, the outrage!
You’d think Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant had actually killed someone rather than just PRETENDING to shoot people on a video game.
Call of Duty: Black Ops is the hottest video game on the planet. It sold 7 million copies in the first 24 hours after it went on sale. The Call of Duty series has sold 55 million games. Bryant appears briefly (for a couple of seconds) on the game’s commercial.
Critics are lining up to blast Bryant for appearing in the commercial, saying it promotes violence. Tim Keown of ESPN.com wrote a particularly ridiculous piece that he filed from from an Oakland mortuary. Meanwhile, the L.A. Daily News even likened Bryant’s commercial to last year’s incident where Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards brought a gun to the arena. Arenas was prosecuted and suspended. That’s right, people are implying Bryant should be suspended for shooting a gun in a commercial.
So, how come Jimmy Kimmel gets a free pass for being in the same commercial? He shoots a freakin’ rocket launcher for God’s sake.
