DOUCHEY MARINERS EXEC SCOTT JENKINS
Seattle Mariners vice president of ballpark operations Scott Jenkins took to the podium this week to address the media. Jenkins was very pleased with himself as he announced his baseball team’s newest “green” promotion- “Compost Night.”
Jenkins announced the promotion with glee. That’s right, the Mariners had a press conference to tout the fact that their big idea for this year was a promotion that sends ballpark garbage home with their fans. The compost being given to fans when they enter Safeco Field is stadium waste food and recycled, biodegradable utensils and plates from stadium food. Free garbage!
Sure, Compost Night has been hailed by Time magazine as an example of pro sports “going green,” but in reality the promotion has been mocked and ridiculed. As the Seattle Times points out, “It will probably never replace Ichiro Bobblehead Night.”
