NOT HAPPY WITH THE TRIFECTA OF PUBLIC BLUNDERS, SEATTLE PD GOES FOR THE PICK FOUR

August 6, 2010

It’s been a bad year for Seattle police.

They have committed a series of very public blunders, screwing up again and again and again and again. The latest humilation happened this week when a Seattle parking enforcement officer issued a ticket to a dead man. While his frantic girlfriend was desperately trying to locate the man, the officer rapped on the windshield of his parked car at 9:30 on Tuesday morning. Concluding the man was simply a “sound sleeper,” the officer left after issuing the man a $42 parking ticket. In fact, the man was dead.

The dead-man-napping incident is just the latest black eye for the Seattle PD. Earlier this year, police were caught on tape kicking an innocent Hispanic man in the face while he was handcuffed and threatening to “kick the Mexican piss” out of him.

That incident happened in May and followed a February fiasco where subcontracted transit cops stood around and watched while a 15-year-old girl was beaten unconscious just inches from them.

At the time, the city had a “no intervention” rule for fights. That incident was also caught on tape.

Then in June, a Seattle Police officer was caught on tape punching a teenage girl in the face with a closed fist.

BUMMER: L.A. SHERIFF TELLS COPS TO STOP MIXING GUNS AND LIQUOR

November 12, 2008

Since 2004 over a dozen police officers in Los Angeles County have been accused of pulling out their guns or shooting them in public after they’ve been drinking. In fact, just this year 60 SoCal cops have been arrested on alcohol related charges. Almost every single one of them was carrying a gun at the time of the arrest.

Sheriff Lee Baca is proposing a policy that would prohibit LA cops from carrying a gun after they’ve been drinking. The police union opposes the policy.
