Man trashes cable company with awesomely demented newspaper ad

May 27, 2011

Thursday, a man named Eugene Mirman took out a full page ad in two New York newspapers to trash Time Warner Cable. This could be the most demented piece of advertising in the history of the english language. Here’s the ad in its entirety for your reading pleasure:

Just as awesome: A New York UHF tv station let Mirman come on the air and read his letter as performance art.

Jay Mariotti is such a scumbag

May 12, 2011

Former newspaper columnist and ESPN “Around the Horn” commentator Jay Mariotti may be looking at some serious jail time. Mariotti has been charged in California with felony stalking and an assault on a former girlfriend. These are new charges. Mariotti had previously been convicted of assaulting the same woman in a jealous rage last year.

In one city where Mariotti’s used to write a column, the Chicago Tribune gleefully reported on Mariotti’s latest legal problems. Chicago Sun-Times columnist Roger Ebert ripped into Mariotti in 2008 when he left the paper. Ebert literally wrote, “On your way out, don’t let the door bang you on the ass.” He hilariously called the piece “Jay the Rat.”

Mariotti is out today proclaiming his innocence on the latest charges. He says the stalking charges are “lies.”

The slow death of newspapers continues

April 24, 2011

Here’s a thought: If you’re America’s “Newspaper of Record,” you probably shouldn’t be duped into thinking a story in the parody news site “The Onion” is real. However, that’s exactly what happened to the New York Times last week. In a feature on the magazine “Tiger Beat” last week, the Times actually referenced a fake Barack Obama story that was really from The Onion, not Tiger Beat.

Was 49ers color commentator fired for giving oral sex tips on the radio?

April 14, 2011

Longtime San Francisco 49ers announcer Gary Plummer has been fired by the club shortly after a podcast of a graphic, sexually explicit interview he gave to the Bay Area radio show “Lady Brain” on the Internet.

In the interview, the now 51-year-old former Niner linebacker talked about 1) his open ’80s marriage and all the chicks he banged 2) an instance where a 49er player had sex on the team bus with the whole 49ers squad and the player’s family watching and 3) the correct way to perform oral sex.

It turns out Plummer was fired only PARTLY for his sex comments. The club is drawing an enormous amount of heat for the other “half” of the reason he was fired-for criticizing the team on-air when they were 0-5.
