The ESPN show “Outside the Lines” sent health inspectors to 107 professional stadiums and arenas throughout the country. The results are not appetizing.
Puss-filled band aids in the clam chowder in Detroit, insects blended into margaritas in Miami and employees scooping ice cream with their bare hands were among the incidents observed by Outside the Lines.
Detroit came out the worst of any Major League sports city. More than half the vendors at Comerica Park, Joe Louis Arena and Ford Field were cited for health code violations. The “puss-filled-band-aid-in-the-clam-chowder” happened at a Detroit Tigers game and was the highlight of the Outside the Lines piece.
