AL DAVIS TOO FEEBLE TO ATTEND RAIDERS GAME

AL DAVIS

How’s this for irony? Fired Oakland coach Lane Kiffin will reportedly be at the Raiders final game of the season today. Al Davis will not.

After attending the Raiders last two games on December 14th and 21st in a wheelchair, the Raiders owner has been ordered to stay home by his doctors. Davis has not missed a Raiders game since 1979 when his wife had a heart attack and was in a coma.

Today’s game is in Tampa Bay. Kiffin will be attending to watch his father’s last game as the Buccaneer’s defensive coordinator. The elder Kiffin is joining his son on the Tennessee coaching staff.

JIM FASSEL

It’s often said and written that after owner Al Davis has burned through five coaches in the last six years NOBODY would be willing to take the Oakland Raiders job. Not true. In fact, one former NFL coach is actually lobbying for the position.

ESPN is reporting that former New York Giants coach Jim Fassel recently sent a hand written letter to Al Davis expressing his “respect and admiration” for the Raiders owner. Fassel has a winning record in seven NFL seasons as coach of the Giants. He led the Giants to their Super Bowl XXXV appaearance against the Baltimore Ravens where they lost 34-7.

ARE OAKLAND RAIDER MINORITY OWNERS PLANNING A COUP D’ ETAT AGAINST AL DAVIS?

AL DAVIS

Today’s San Francisco Examiner has the story of a possible attempt to depose Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis.

Davis is the Raiders Managing General Partner.  He doesn’t actually OWN the Raiders in a financial sense. However, Davis does control every single vote of the Raiders General Partnership making any attempt to vote or buy him out impossible.

The examiner article mentions a couple of highly dubious strategies that might rid the Raiders of Davis. The first is to go to court and have Al Davis declared legally incompetant. (Highly unlikely especially with Davis’ battery of lawyers.) The other way to get rid od Davis, according to the Examiner, would be to have the league step in. Under that scenario (even more unlikely) the NFL would strip Davis of his franchise.

KIFFIN IS TOAST

LANE KIFFIN AND AL DAVIS

The firing of Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin is expected to be made official today. At 33, Kiffin is the youngest coach in the National Football League. He was the youngest coach in league history when he was named to head the Raiders after being an assistant at USC.

Kiffin, who has had a horrible relationship with Raiders owner Al Davis, is expected to be let go following his team’s late loss to the Buffalo Bills yesterday. Davis reportedly blames Kiffin for the loss because he didn’t call a timeout to ice Bills kicker Rian Lindell.

Davis was looking for any excuse to axe Kiffin whom he lost confidence in long ago. Davis reportedly asked Kiffin to resign this summer.

News of Kiffin’s impending departure was first reported by Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com and was later confirmed by ESPN and Chris Mortensen.
