“ONE OF THE MORE BLATANT JOURNALISTIC SUCK JOBS” IN HISTORY

BRETT MYERS DRESSES HIS SON IN A SHIRT FEATURING THE CONFEDERATE FLAG AND THE SLOGAN “REDNECK AND PROUD OF IT”

The website “Can’t Stop the Bleeding” has blasted an online feature by Digital Sports Daily’s Travis Duncan, which praises wife-beating Houston Astros pitcher Brett Myers as a “bigger-than-life personality.” Duncan observes, “Baseball needs personalities like Myers.”

Duncan notes Kim Myers dropped the charges in the wife-beating case and quotes the pitcher as saying, “Every incident they wrote about me [in Philadelphia], the media made it bigger than it was.” Www.Can’tstopthe bleeding.com calls it “one of the more blatant journalistic suck jobs in recent memory” and runs through a litany of incidents showing what a jerk Myers is.

PHILLIES PITCHERS HAMELS, MYERS SCRAP

BRETT MYERS AND COLE HAMELS

Apparently, Brett Myers doesn’t fight only women.

According to a story by Yahoo! Sports, Myers and fellow Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels had a locker room altercation following Game Five of the World Series. Myers was walking by Hamels as he was dressing. He asked Hamels, “What are you doing here? I thought you quit.”

Hamels had to be restrained from going after Myers by several teammates. Myers was led out of the Phillies locker by a team official.

The scuffle ruined the good mood in the Phillies clubhouse and came fresh off an 8-6  victory over the New York Yankees to force a World Series Game Six. Myers’ comments were in reference to an interview Hamels gave recently. Hamels said he “couldn’t wait” for this season to end. Hamels, a postseason star on the Phillies World Championship team last year, suffered through a mediocre 2009 regular season. He also has a 7.58 ERA in this year’s postseason.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel was mystified by the altercation, saying it “surprised” him. Hamels said repeatedly in the same interview that he wanted to pitch Game Seven if the World Series goes that far.

WIFE-BEATING PHILLIES RELIEVER NOW SAYS HE “TRIPPED”

Now, Brett Myers says he “tripped.” Previously, the Philadelphia Phillies pitcher had told the club he had injured his eye while playing catch with his 4-year-old. Either way, the Philadelphia media doesn’t appear to be buying it. Particularly, with Myers’ history of domestic violence and abuse.

Myers was scheduled to pitch in a minor league game in Florida Saturday night. He was on an injury rehabilitation assignment from the Phillies while recovering from hip surgery. The club says Myers woke up Saturday with his eye “swollen like a balloon.”

The story of how Myers injured his eye has changed over the last 24 hours. Unprompted, Kim Myers, the pitcher’s wife, said,

“No, I did not hit him with a frying pan.”

Too bad. In 2006, Myers repeatedly struck his wife in the face with a closed fist in front of dozens of horrified onlookers in Boston. The incident happened outside of Fenway Park following a Red Sox/Phillies game and prompted multiple 911 calls. Apparently, the Myers family has a long history of “tripping.” Mrs. Myers eventually dropped all the domestic abuse charges against her husband.

In the current incident, Myers originally told the Phillies that he hurt his eye while playing catch with his 4-year-old son. Apparently, not wanting to be known as the type of guy who beats women AND would throw his own 4-year-old under the bus, Myers called the club back and changed his story.

In the current version of how he injured his eye, Myers says he had “two beers” while out to dinner with his family. Myers says the babysitter drove them home and he hit his face on the side of his Escalade after tripping from becoming entangled in toys while getting out of the back seat.

Geeze, that seems plausible. The club certainly seems to be buying it.
