September 28, 2009

CARLOS ZAMBRANO

Wacky Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano told the Chicago Tribune that he will retire after next season if he suffers through another poor season “like 2009.” Zambrano has only nine wins on the season, despite throwing a two-hitter on Friday.

Zambrano has talked about quitting before. Not likely. He is in the middle of a $91 million contract that is guaranteed at least through 2012.

CARLOS ZAMBRANO

Just minutes after picking up his 100th career win, Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano announced to a room full of reporters that he would retire at the end of his current contract. Zambrano is signed through 2012 with an option for 2013 on a $91.5 million contract.

Still, Zambrano says he’s missed out on a lot while playimg baseball,

“After this contract, I’m done. I’m serious. I don’t want to play. I want to help this team, I want to do everything possible to win with this team, but after five years or four years, or whatever I have left on my contract, I just don’t want to play.

“I want to stay home and see my daughters grow up and hang out with my family more. Do you know how many Mother’s Days I spend with my mother? Do you know how many things I’ve lost in my life?”

Even Carlos Zambrano realizes he got off easy. The Chicago Cubs ace pitcher accepted a six-game suspension yesterday for his on-field tirade during Wednesday’s game. When was the last time you can remember an MLB player not automatically appealing a suspension?

BLASPHEMY! CUBS PITCHER WANTS TO GET RID OF WRIGLEY FIELD

April 5, 2009

WRIGLEY FIELD

Chicago Cubs ace pitcher Carlos Zambrano is in trouble with the home fans. Speaking from the New York Yankees new $1.5 billion  stadium, Zambrano told reporters he would “…wish that Chicago’d build a new stadium for the Cubs.”

Needless to say, those comments have not been well received in the city of Chicago, where Wrigley Field is practically a religious shrine.

Cubs manager Lou Piniella wisely distanced himself from Zambrano’s remarks by saying he “didn’t see why” Chicago would need a new stadium. Piniella made a point of extolling Wrigley’s historic nature.
