Peyton Hillis sure believes in the Madden Curse now

January 2, 2012

At least Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis knows who to blame for his terrible 2011 NFL season. It’s John Madden’s fault. Before this week’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers dropped the Browns to a season-ending 4-12, Hillis freely admitted he was now a firm believer in the “Madden Curse.”  In fact, he proclaimed himself the latest victim. So, if it wasn’t Madden’s fault, it was YOUR fault if you were one of the fans who voted Hillis onto the cover of Madden 12.

As one Yahoo! Sports columnist pointed out, Hillis should probably be blaming himself. After constant contract squabbling with the Browns following the lockout, Hillis spent most of his season being injured, pouting about his contract and generally being an asshole. Hillis’ had such a lousy attitude this season that his teammates actually staged a DICK intervention at one point.

WHITE GUY HITS 1,000 YARDS

 PEYTON HILLIS

Cleveland running back Peyton Hillis racked up another 108 yards against the Buffalo in the Browns loss to Buffalo on Sunday. That gives him 1,070 yards rushing on the season and makes him the first white NFL running back since Craig James to run for more than 1,000 yards in a single season. James, one of the most corrupt and prolific cheaters in college football history, accomplished the feat 25 years ago, in 1985.

Lecharles Bentley Lawsuit

LECHARLES BENTLEY

Former Pro Bowl offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley had his career cut short after signing with the Cleveland Browns. Bentley picked up a career-ending staph infection at the team’s medical facilityafter being operated on by Browns doctors. Bentley never played a snap with Cleveland after signing a six-year, $36 million contract. He contracted the staph infection after a minor knee operation and almost died.

Bentley’s lawyers are suing the club citing unsanitary medical conditions. Other Browns contracted staph infections at the team’s practice facility too. Wide receiver Joe Jurevicius retired after he got a staph infection from the Browns. He’s suing the Browns as well and that doesn’t even include the story about Kellen Winslow Jr.’s testicles. READ THIS if you dare.

DEREK ANDERSON NAPALMS BRIDGES ON THE WAY OUT OF CLEVELAND

March 10, 2010

DEREK ANDERSON

Quarterback Derek Anderson didn’t just burn his bridges with the city of Cleveland after being released by the browns, he napalmed them.

Anderson said of the city of Cleveland, “The fans are ruthless and don’t deserve a winner. I will never forget getting cheered cheered when I was injured…I hope and pray I’m playing when my team comes to town and roll them.”

DEREK ANDERSON IS AN ASTUTE JUDGE OF TALENT

DEREK ANDERSON

Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson may not be very good, but he might have a future as an NFL personnel guy.

At the Brown’s Wednesday press conference, Anderson evaluated his own stats saying, “They are garbage.” Anderson has completed just 43.8% of his passes while throwing just two touchdowns and seven interceptions. His quarterback rating is 40.6. That’s even worse than Browns deposed quarterback Brady Quinn. Way worse.

BRADY QUINN’S HOUSE IS FOR SALE

Browns quarterback Brady Quinn has put his Cleveland area house up for sale.

Several sources are speculating that the house listing may mean an impending trade for the Browns first round bust. Quinn lost his starting job to Derek Anderson two weeks ago. The NFL trading deadline is next Tuesday.

BRADY QUINN CAN NO LONGER GO OUT IN PUBLIC IN CLEVELAND

BRADY QUINN

The Cleveland Browns lost again on Sunday, dropping to 0-4. However, at least they got a decent effort out of their quarterback, Derek Anderson. Anderson was replacing an ineffective Brady Quinn who had been benched by Browns coach Eric Mangini the previous week.

Quinn may now officially fall into the “bust” category. After a star-studded career at Notre Dame, Quinn was the Browns first round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He was immediately given a $20 million contract and designated by fans and the media as a franchise quarterback. Unfortunately, Quinn has thrown all of three career touchdown passes in three seasons in Cleveland and the Browns are probably a worse football team now than when they drafted him.

Quinn has started six games in his NFL career. The Browns are 1-5 in those games. Quinn has thrown for more than 200 yards just twice (239 yards against Denver in 2008 and 205 yards against Minnesota earlier this season.) He has five interceptions to go with those three td’s and a miserable quarterback rating of 64.5.

Despite all of that failure, Quinn is a bit of an Internet legend. There are multitudes of photos showing Quinn partying throughout America. After last week, though, Quinn may have to limit his partying. He may no longer be able to show his face in public in the city of Cleveland ever again.

Fanhouse has a great story about Quinn showing up at the House of Blues in Cleveland last week. Rapper Common was on stage and, spotting him in the crowd, went on a freestyle rap about how much Quinn sucks. The story of Common dissing Quinn made the Cleveland paper as well as every Browns blog and fansite.

GAY ICON BRADY QUINN BENCHED

BRADY QUINN

The Cleveland Browns have benched starting quarterback and gay icon Brady Quinn in favor of veteran Derek Anderson. The Browns made the move after a first half that produced no touchdowns in their 34-3 loss to Baltimore.

Quinn had just one touchdown pass in the Browns first three games and a mediocre quarterback rating of 66.9. More importantly, the Browns are now 0-3.

JOHN CLAYTON ACCUSES BRADY QUINN OF TIPPING DEFENSE IN BROWNS SCRIMMAGE TO MAKE DEREK ANDERSON LOOK BAD

BRADY QUINN

ESPN’s John Clayton says Cleveland quarterback Brady Quinn tipped his defensive teammates to upcoming plays being run by fellow quarterback Derek Anderson during a recent Brown’s in-team scrimmage. Quinn and Anderson are battling for the Browns starting quarterback job.

Clayton snidely suggests that, based on Cleveland coach Eric Mangini’s New England Patriots background, stealing and tipping signals may actually HELP Quinn nail down the Brown’s starting qb job.

STALLWORTH DID TEQUILA SHOTS THE NIGHT HE KILLED A PEDESTRIAN

DONTE’ STALLWORTH

Get ready for more outrage. There were people who were already angry that Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth got only 30 days in jail for killing a man while driving drunk earlier this year. Now more details are coming out in the case and it doesn’t look good for Stallworth’s already shaky reputation. It’s also now highly unlikely that Stallworth, who has been suspended indefinitely by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, will be back on the field any time soon.

The AP filed a public records request for the audio tape Stallworth made to police the night he killed a 59-year-old man while driving with a .126 blood-alcohol level. A judge ordered that news organizations be given the tape aand other court documents.

The dead man’s family took a cash settlement. They agreed not to fully prosecute Stallworth. In exchange, Stallworth took a plea deal on vehicular manslaughter charges and received a reduced jail sentence. The arrangement angered many including Mothers Against Drunk Drivers who feel Stallworth bought his way out of justice.

In the released audio tape, Stallworth tells police he drank several shots of tequila at a Browns teammate’s table then bought himself more tequila shots. When asked how many shots he drank, Stallworth said, “I wasn’t really counting.” The receiver said he “didn’t feel drunk” on his drive home.

Underachieving wide receiver Braylan Edwards is the Browns teammate who bought tequila shots for Stallworth. Edwards’ bar tab the night of the accident was $3,443. Meanwhile, Stallworth’s credit card receipts show he spent $465 JUST on tequila. He also bought one water and one Red Bull.
