RICK SANCHEZ IS THE REAL LIFE TED BAXTER

May 5, 2010

Mediaite.com claims CNN announcer Rick Sanchez “channeled Ron Burgundy” Tuesday afternoon when he literally read on-the-air:

“Up next…ad lib…a tease.”

Sanchez recovered, saying, “That’s what it says right here. I’m supposed to ad lib about something.”

TOM DELAY: PEOPLE ARE UNEMPLOYED BECAUSE THEY WANT TO BE

March 8, 2010

TOM DELAY

Former Republican House Majority Leader, turned indicted criminal, turned Dancing With The Stars megadouche Tom DeLay made some news on CNN Sunday when he said told Candy Crowley that people in America are unemployed because they want to be. DeLay also made the argument that giving unemployed people federal money is unsound fiscal policy.

DeLay argued “these extensions, the unemployment benefits keeps people from going and finding jobs.” DeLay added “people stay on unemployment compensation and they don’t look for a job until two or three weeks before they know the benefits are going to run out.”

LOU DOBBS GOES FREE AGENT

LOU DOBBS

Longtime CNN personality Lou Dobbs is leaving the network effective immediately. Dobbs made the announcement on his show yesterday. Dobbs’ contract with CNN ran through 2011. He asked the network to let him out of the contract early.

There is speculation that Dobbs will end up at Fox News or Fox Business News where his conservative views are more in line with other programming. He met with Fox News Channel chairman Roger Ailes in September. Dobbs will continue to host his daily radio show.

TIP OF THE DAY: LARRY KING IS ON TWITTER

July 23, 2009

twitter

For those of you who miss the rambling insanity of Larry King’s USA Today column, there’s good news. King has a Twitter page.

Among the recent tweets posted by Larry King:

“I love black licorice.”

“Why are objects in the rear view mirror closer than they appear?”

“Of all the muffins, corn is my favorite.”

If you’re just dying to find out Larry King’s view on muffins or anything else, his CNN/Twitter page is:   HERE

Unfortunately, there’s a report that CNN is cracking down on King’s Tweets. Apparently someone didn’t like the talk legend posting five times about his lunch with Ryan Seacrest, including who was picking up the check.

One aside, King was a degenerate gambler who was actually arrested in the 1960’s over his gambling debts. Is it really a good idea for him to post Tweets about making $100 bets over All-Star Game uniforms?

RACE TO THE BOTTOM: ASHTON KUTCHER VS CNN IN TWITTER SMACKDOWN

ASHTON KUTCHER: SLIGHTLY LESS PATHETIC THAN CNN

Here’s a question you’ve probably never pondered. Who’s less relevant? Is it actor Ashton Kutcher or the Cable News Network, CNN.

Congratulations. It’s CNN. In an historic new low for any media company, CNN was actually beaten in its Twitter “Race to a Million” contest by Kutcher. That’s right, CNN got Punk’d by Ashton Kutcher.

This concludes what is arguably the worst week in the 30-year history of the cable giant. First, they received an old fashioned ass-kicking by rival cable network Fox News on tax day. CNN’s ratings were more than tripled by Fox with their coverage of “tea bag” protests. Now, a single actor, who hasn’t had a hit movie since…EVER, has just beaten CNN in website hits. Worse, CNN then had to report this defeat on their own Twitter “Breaking News” site.

CNN was probably doomed the minute Kutcher made an appearance on The Larry King Show and the cable talk icon started dogging Mr. Demi Moore. King, who is 103-years-old, idiotically told Kutcher,

“Are you kidding? Do you think you can take on an entire network? Do you know what CNN is? CNN will bury you.”

Leave it to a cranky septuagenerian, who admits he still hasn’t figured out how to send e-mail, to assess a new technology like Twitter. Maybe that explains why CNN is failing so badly.

ORIGINAL CO-HOST OF “CROSSFIRE” DIES

TOM BRADEN (FAR LEFT OF COURSE): ONLY THE ORIGINAL “CROSSFIRE” COULD GET ROCKER FRANK ZAPPA ON THE SAME STAGE AS CONSERVATIVE PUNDIT BOB NOVAK

Tom Braden who, along with Pat Buchanan, was one of the original co-hosts of the CNN show “Crossfire” died Friday. He was 92.

Although it was later ridiculed out of existence by Comedy Central host Jon Stewart, Crossfire was a groundbreaking television show. It’s concept of having a liberal and conservative host argue their points on live television was later picked up by shows like Hannity & Colmes on Fox News. Braden was a Crossfire host from 1982-89. He was the liberal to Buchanan’s conservative.

Many shows have since surpassed it, but Crossfire was the first political, issues-oriented, debate show in national tv history. Braden and Buchanan were the guys who started it, first on radio as far back as 1978.

One other tidbit about Braden. He was the inspiration for the hit  ’80s tv show “Eight is Enough.” Braden wrote the book that the series was based on. He sold the rights to his book to NBC for the princely sum of $1,000.
