FRANK MIR WANTS TO KILL BROCK LESNAR

February 22, 2010

In an interview with a Pittsburgh radio station, UFC heavyweight Frank Mir said he literally wants to kill opponent Brock Lesnar. Mir said he wanted to break Lesnar’s neck and have him be “the first person that dies due to Octagon-related injuries.”

Mir and Lesnar have fought twice previously. Mir defeated the former pro wrestler in 2008. Lesnar won the UFC heavyweight championship by beating Mir in 2009. Lesnar is currently recovering from intestinal injuries.

FORREST GRIFFIN

UFC 92 takes place this weekend. It features one of the deepest cards in the MMA organization’s history.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship itself is hyping UFC 92 as its best card of the year. It features two championship matches and an incredibly compelling third fight. At the top of the card, Forrest Griffin makes the first defense of his UFC Light heavyweight championship. Griffin takes on Rashad Evans. Both Griffin and Evans are past winners of the popular Spike TV reality show The Ultimate Fighter. Griffin was victorious in Season One over Stephan Bonner. Evans won Season Two of the show.

Also on the card, interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Nogueira takes on longtime UFC veteran and past champion Frank Mir. The winner of that match will face Brock Lesnar for the undisputed UFC heavyweight title.

However, probably the most intriguing fight of the evening features the return to the Octagon of former Light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as he takes on Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva. The pair had fought twice previously in PRIDE with Silva winning both events.

It is Jackson’s return to UFC following his breakdowns both inside (against Griffin) and outside the Octagon this summer.

UFC 92 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Saturday night.
