“Relapsing” Josh Hamilton apparently had anonymous sex in a restaurant bathroom stall

PHOTO OF THE LAST TIME JOSH HAMILTON FELL OFF THE WAGON

Poor Mrs. Josh Hamilton. She has stuck by her husband, Texas Rangers outfielder and former AL MVP Josh Hamilton, through years of his addictions to alcohol, crack and heroin. Now, she’ being publicly humiliated. Again.

Hamilton’s feel-good story of overcoming addiction (mostly) has been well chronicled by the national media. Particularly since he has played in the national spotlight during each of the last two seasons in the World Series. However, Hamilton has had two very public and very humiliating relapses. The first came in 2009 when Hamilton was photographed doing shots and licking whipped cream off a girl’s breasts in a bar. Hamilton’s latest drunken fiasco occured January 30th.

Although Hamilton has publicly admitted indiscretions and even addressed the second matter with a press conference, he didn’t provide any details about the incident. Don’t worry, the website Deadspin.com has. Deadspin, which was not able to ruin Hamilton’s marriage with their 2009 photos, has a posting that will probably torch the Hamilton’s relationship. The story tells about Hamilton having anonymous sex with a woman who was a complete stranger. The sex allegedly occured in the restaurant’s mens room following a rousing bout of karaoke.

Deadspin also reported on a rumor that somebody tried to sell a Dallas tv station a camera phone “sex tape” of the encounter.

MARK CUBAN IS HIGH BIDDER FOR THE TEXAS RANGERS

August 4, 2010

MARK CUBAN

Despite the fact that he is despised by the sport’s upper management, colorful basketball owner Mark Cuban of the Dallas Mavericks is trying like hell to get a Major League Baseball team. Bloomberg.com details how Cuban was the high bidder for the bankrupt Texas Rangers.

MLB is scared to death that Rangers creditors may favor the high profile, big-spending Cuban over a group headed by nice-guy but not rich pitching legend Nolan Ryan. Cuban’s lawyers are crying “collusion” over the fact that MLB is refusing an auction for the team. Cuban is teaming up with Houston businessman Jim Crane to buy the club. Cuban feels if it were left to competitive bidding he would end up with the team.

* Update: After an extended night of bidding that included “profane exchanges” between the two bidding factions, the Nolan Ryan/Chuck Greenberg ownership group won the auction for the bankrupt Rangers.

RANGERS MANAGER TESTED POSITIVE FOR COCAINE LAST YEAR

RON WASHINGTON

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington admits he tested positive for cocaine last July. Saying he was “embarrassed” and “sorry,” Washington told Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, “I did make a mistake and I regret that I did it.” Washington added, “Any attempt to try to explain it is going to sound like excuses…I did wrong.”

Last summer, rather than claim a false positive then go in to be re-tested (a test he would have passed) Washington took the unusual step of going to the commissioner’s office and the Rangers. He told them about his drug use before the results of the test were known. The Rangers decided not to fire Washington.

WON’T SOMEBODY PLEASE TAKE TOM HICKS’ BASEBALL TEAM AWAY FROM HIM BEFORE HE DOES ANY MORE DAMAGE?

FORMER PITCHING LEGEND NOLAN RYAN MAY BE THE NEW OWNER OF THE TEXAS RANGERS

Congrats to Tom Hicks of the Texas Rangers! He may be the first baseball owner in history to have his team repossessed. Hicks has been unable to pay his sports teams operating expenses since April. Hicks can’t even afford just  the interest on the debt he owes in financing the Rangers and hockey’s Dallas Stars. He also owns 50% of the Liverpool soccer team in England.

Hicks has been trying to find investors to provide him with the necessary cash to prevent his franchise from going broke. Major League Baseball has been running the Rangers during Hicks’ financial difficulties. Recently, Hicks thought he had found an angel. Former sports agent Dennis Gilbert was supposedly going to come up with hundreds of millions of dollars to buy a percentage of the club from Hicks and save the franchise. That would have meant an end to former Rangers pitcher Nolan Ryan and his tenure as an executive with the Rangers. Ryan is trying to put together a rival ownership group to Gilbert’s and buy the Rangers himself.

Ryan was as good as gone. Once Gilbert finalized his deal with Hicks, the Hall of Fame pitcher was set to resign as team president. However, Gilbert pulled out at the last minute, after being unable to secure financing. That leaves Hicks high and dry. Thanks to the former radio executive’s financial ineptitude, the Texas Rangers are so broke they can’t make any moves during next week’s baseball Winter Meetings. Ryan remains Rangers president for now.

There is an ESPN report that Hicks wanted to take a cable tv deal from Fox Sports that gave him immediate cash up front. However, MLB wasn’t going for it since it would be way below market value for the Rangers tv rights long term.

JOSH HAMILTON “SLIPPED”

August 8, 2009

JOSH HAMILTON

The website Deadspin.com posted a series of embarrassing photos of Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton today. Hamilton is a recovering addict and alcoholic. The pictures show a shirtless Hamilton in an Arizona bar with a variety of young women in various forms of undress doing shots off Hamilton while licking whipped cream off his body.

Hamilton conducted a presser before today’s Rangers game to address the photographs. He says he “slipped up” in his recovery this January and admits to being “human.” Hamilton is one of the most popular players in baseball. His story of overcoming addiction and finding religion has been well documented.

Once again, the website Can’t Stop the Bleeding has the top headline on the subject. Their take?

“Last January, Josh Hamilton picked the wrong week to quit heroin whipped cream”

RON WASHINGTON

The first place Texas Rangers have finally picked up the option on manager Ron Washington’s contract for 2010. The Rangers are a surprising 33-23 and lead the Los Angeles Angels by 4 1/2 games in the A.L. West.

In fact, despite being 22nd in Major League Baseball in pitching, the Rangers are only half a game from having the best record in the American League (behind only the New York Yankees.)

TOM HICKS: RANGERS OWNER IS ALL HAT AND NO CATTLE

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Tom Hicks may be the first professional sports owner to actually have his franchises repossessed. Tuesday’s Journal says creditors have declared the Hicks Sports Group in default. That is the first step in stripping Hicks of his Major League Baseball team, the Texas Rangers, and his NHL hockey team, the Dallas Stars.

Hicks defaulted on payments owed to 40 banks and credit institutions. He owes them $525 million.
