January 4, 2012

Disc jockey-turned MM fighter Houston Alexander has been arrested in his Omaha  home after allegedly forcing his 16-year-old son to participate in a boxing match with him. Alexander, the only UFC fighter in history to lose to KO specialist/novelty act Kimbo Slice, was charged with misdemeanor child abuse.

Alexander told police he caught his son participating in online sex and having”explicit sexual contact on Facebook.” Alexander then accused his son of lying about the incident whereupon he broke out the boxing gloves to teach his son a lesson.

Brazilians dominate UFC 134

August 28, 2011

Anderson Silva retained his middleweight championship with a dominant win over Yushin Okami at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Saturday night. Silva has been the UFC champion since 2006. His 14-match winning streak is the longest in Ultimate Fighting Championship history. In fact, the last fight that Silva suffered was to Okami in January of 2006 and he only lost that match because he was unaware of the rules. Silva kicked Okami in the face from the guard position and was disqualified. That fight was Silva’s UFC debut. He has yet to lose again in UFC. Last night’s win avenges Silva’s only UFC loss. At the time of his first loss to Okami, Silva had called the fighter’s first win against him “cowardly.”

Other fights on last night’s UFC 134 card featured Mauricio Rua defeating former light heavyweught champion Forrest Griffin and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira knocking our Brendan Schaub.

Next month, at UFC 135 in Denver, light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defends his belt against current movie star Rampage Jackson. Also on that card, fan favorite Diego Sanchez will battle Hall of Famer Matt Hughes and veteran Nick Diaz takes on former Pride champion Gomi.

Dana White: “Fuck ESPN”

August 21, 2011

Fresh off his organization’s new tv deal with Fox, UFC President Dana White boldly proclaimed on his Twitter page this weekend, “Fuck ESPN.”

White also Tweeted that ESPN “always hated” the UFC.

The UFC has finally landed a network tv deal. The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Fox reached agreement on a seven-year deal Thursday. The new contract allows Fox to televise four UFC cards per year. The deal also allows Fox properties FX and Fuel TV to show an additional 32 events.

The deal is worth a reported $100 million and leaves previous network Spike TV out in the cold. Spike will air Season 14 of the UFC reality tv series “The Ultimate Fighter” in September before the show moves to FX with live Friday night fights according to Steve Cofield of Yahoo! Sports.

Joe Rogan is not going to win this year’s “Alan Alda Male Sensitivity Award”

June 6, 2011

JOE ROGAN

Last week we brought you the story of UFC fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and his faux motorboating controversy. Yahoo! Sports blogger/columnist Maggie Hendricks was one of several writers to hammer Jackson for his sordid history of inappropriate treament towards female journalists.

Over the weekend, it was Hendricks who was attacked. Following her criticism of Jackson, UFC announcer Joe Rogan went online and made some comments about Hendricks that were in incredibly poor taste. For instance, Rogan actually referred to Hendricks as being “cunty,” whatever the hell that means.

In addition to pointing out that Rampage Jackson is NOT A FUCKING DENTIST, Rogan added that even though the fighter occassionly gets “out of line,” that’s just “part of his charm.” Rogan also dropped two c-word bombs on Hendricks and referred to her as “ugly.” Classy! (even for a guy from Fear Factor.)

Rogan’s comments were so over the top that UFC president Dana White was offended. Wow! I didn’t even know that was possible. White made Rogan apologize to Hendricks.

Rogan returned to the same same chatroom and wrote:

“Never did I imagine that so many people would get their panties in a bunch about the use of the word “c*nty” to describe a female blogger, but in this “gotcha” age of online “journalism” we find ourselves in any controversy that can be expolited to fill headlines…”

Jesus, man! Worst…apology…ever.

Rampage Jackson is a motorboating fool

Actor/UFC fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson either gave a lighthearted interview with a female reporter named Karyn Bryant or is a serial sexual harasser. It depends on who you ask. Bryant herself did not appear offended at all when Jackson pretended to motorboat her breasts and threatened to “hump” her. (Watch the above video.)

On the other hand, Maggie Hendricks of Yahoo! Sports was outraged at Jackson and his history of bad behavior towards female reporters. MMA writer Michael David Smith also wrote a story about Jackson’s history of harassing behavior which included this montage of embarrassing video.

Keep in mind Jackson has a history of possible mental illness and was once almost gunned down by LA cops in an insane police chase.

Actor rules UFC 130 – Fat Guys? Not so much

May 29, 2011

RAMPAGE JACKSON

Most people know Quinton “Rampage” Jackson these days as B.A. Baracus from the movie “The A-Team.” Saturday night in Las Vegas, Jackson proved he’s still a force in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Jackson scored a unanimous decision over Matt Hamill.

Although he easily controlled the fight, the MGM Grand crowd booed Jackson over what they percived as a lackluster performance. Now that he’s an entertainer, fans may have been expecting more. Jackson defended himself by pointing out that he entered the fight with a broken hand. That, he says, was the real reason there was no knockout of Hamill.

Also victorious Saturday was former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir. He beat the fat, yet popular, Roy Nelson. Most fans remember Nelson as the winner of Season 10 of the UFC reality tv show “The Ultimate Fighter.” That was the most-watched season of the popular UFC-based show, mainly because of the appearance of novelty act Kimbo Slice. Nelson easily defeated Slice in that series. Saturday, Nelson was no match for Mir. Although, in fairness, Mir wasn’t exactly looking svelte himself.

Other UFC 130 winners included Travis Browne, Rick Story, Brian Stann and Demetrious Johnson.

RANDY COUTURE LOSES IN LAST FIGHT

Georges St.Pierre retained his UFC welterweight title with a bloody unanimous decision over Jake Shields at UFC 129 in Toronto on Saturday. The card drew a record 55,000 UFC fans.

Meanwhile, UFC legend Randy Couture was literally kicked into retirement with a second round loss to Lyoto Machida. Fighting as a light heavyweight, Couture confirmed in an interview with Joe Rogan that he is indeed retiring.

Also, Jose Aldo kept his UFC featherweight title in what was described as a “war”by Steve Cofield of Yahoo! Sports. Here’s a post-fight photo of Aldo’s opponent, Mark Hominick, from Cofield’s article:
